18:12 "But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.'" I remember knowing people in college who said things very similar to this. Basically, "I'm goin' to hell....but it least it will be more fun there." At a time in my life when I was not very close to God myself, these words didn't hold the same strength as they do when I think about them now. I think in general, people...both in and out of the church...don't really understand heaven and hell. Just my opinion.
My notes point out that the parable about the potter and the pot were probably known by the people at that time. So the visual of Jeremiah smashing the pot as an illustration should have had some impact.
What an image....God's words became a fire in Jeremiah's bones...so that he had no choice but to speak them! No doubt, Jeremiah took some really hard messages to some really powerful people.
