Chapter 1 is definitely doom and gloom. It is not until the beginning of chapter 2 that we get a little hope. And even then it says: "Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger." I'm not sure how to take that word 'perhaps.' But as he goes on with his judgment for the various nations, he promises to take care of a remnant of His people.
I am struck by 3:16-17. "Do not let your hands hang limp. The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." How often do I let me hands hang limp? In serving, in worshiping, in whatever... I love the promises in these verses. My God takes great delight in ME!
