Day 223: Jeremiah 14-17

My notes point out in chapter 14 that the people cried out to God when he sent a drought.  However God rejected their plea.  They weren't repenting, they merely wanted rescued.  This shows me that knew who God was and the power that he held.  I think this is true of so many people today!  When something really bad happens, they pray for the first time in years.  In their heart, they know that He is real and has real power.  People are so selfish!  They want it both ways!

I think in the middle of chapter 16 is a good example of using our actions to show people God.  God told Jeremiah to not take part in mourning rituals or celebrations.  Then when people asked him why he did not take part, he was to tell them about God.  A good reminder that we are to look different than our culture and then use that to point to God when asked.

17:9-10 show why we sin....it's in our hearts and has been since we were born.  But God "searches the heart and examines the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve."  We still choose to act on our sin nature.  Interesting.
