Day 154: Proverbs 1-4

The first thing that strikes me is that Solomon is so willing to share his wisdom.  When he received this supernatural gift from God, he didn't just use it for his own gain or glory.  He uses it to help others, to point them towards God,  and to increase their wisdom as well.  A good example for all of us with our gifts.

When I see my kids doing something stupid just because someone else does, we say something stupid like "if they jumped off a bridge, would you too?"  1:8-19 speaks to being enticed by others.  Peer pressure evidently is as old as mankind!

I love: "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.  Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man."

Actually all of chapter 3 is great.  It takes different areas of your life: your stuff, your health, self-view, trusting God, etc. and ties a specific benefit to applying wisdom in that area.  Cool.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.  Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.  Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.  Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil."  If I could get my kids to see the importance of this stuff, oh the mistakes and pitfalls they could avoid!
