Had to look through my table of contents. I've never heard this book referred to as simply "Solomon" before. I was reminded by my introduction to this book that this is a historical story with 2 layers of meaning. On 1 level we learn about love, marriage, and sex; and on the other level we see God's overwhelming love for his people. I think you almost have to read it twice so you can see it both ways. Kind of like one of those optical illusions that is totally 2 pictures at once depending how you look at it. Funny how this reading landed on my 19th anniversary today!
I don't quite get the "friends" who speak throughout this book. Must be a poetic device of some kind. Also interesting animal references. I guess we chalk those up to poetry or the times, because they definitely wouldn't be too flattering today.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this through.
