Day 9: Job 21-23

In chapter 21, Job picks a really good argument. How can evil people prosper? This just illustrates that they really did not have a real belief that there was anything more after this life. It seems like they just thought that your rewards (and punishments) from God were doled out here and now.

I think we are not that different from Job in that he so desperately wants to know "Why?" I know I am constantly thinking 'that's not fair' about the way things go in life. I guess we have a more complete story of God at work than Job did though. We know the whole sin-thing has been dealt with and that God is totally fair.

I really liked Job 22:21-30 as it spoke about repentance.

Have a great week-end! And by the way, we are half way through Job.

  1. It seems like it finally made sense to me today. Job is more distraught over losing his fellowship with God... "why does he leave me to suffer alone", etc. Job's 'friends' are more concerned about Job's stuff. They just keep mourning the fact that he lost all of his prosperity and could get it back if he cleaned up his act. I pray that I will be like Job and desire communion with God more than the blessings that it brings.

  2. There is such a difference between how God views Job in the first chapter and how Job's friends view him. Imagine God thinks so much of Job and the relationship that he has with him that he has complete trust that Job will not turn away from God no matter what comes his way. But the friends think God has abandoned Job, when nothing could be further from the truth. I need to focus more on what God thinks of me than what my friends do.

Side Note: If you aren't using a Study Bible, it might make it a lot easier to understand what is going on if you used one!
