Concerning "Does Job fear God for nothing?", I liked this note in my Bible: Satan accurately analized why many people trust God. They are fair-weather believers, following God only when everything is going well or for what they can get. Adversity destroys this superficial faith. But adversity strengthens real faith by causing believers to dig their roots deeper into God in order to withstand the storms. I think my life has been very blessed and relatively adversity-free. I hope that someday when I am shaken, I can respond like Job did during his first test! (Job 1:21)
When I read this passage I was reminded of the fact that Job was a righteous man and yet suffered greatly. I think that we are quick to assume that a Christian has sinned when we see suffering in their lives. Although sin does cause consequences sometimes, it is not the case that all who are dealing with issues have caused it based on their sin.
ReplyDeleteGod knew the plans for Job all along, but why did He allow such suffering in His life? As humans we are sinful, but I feel like God was just picking on Job.
Material blessings, family protection, anything on this earth is not promised by God when we accept Jesus, only the promise of eternal life with Him and that the Holy Spirit would always be with us. I think we tend to take for granted God's blessings here in America, but those blessings should not be taken for granted because they can come and go (as we see with Job).
ReplyDeleteJob's friends got it right at first, they just came and sat with him for 7 days, after that they opened their mouths (and it all went south!).
