Day 23: Genesis 32-34

I am curious as to the significance of Jacob wrestling with God as he is about to go and meet Essau. Once again, I am reading without footnotes....so I recognize the story, but I don't remember the significance and the timing.

The lesson of Jacob meeting Essau is that things are not always as bad as we imagine they are going to be. Jacob is expecting to be attacked by Essau and his army, and yet Essau meets him with open arms.

Do you think that in Chapter 34 Shecham and the other men decided to follow God and then were circumcised or were they just performing an outward act to get what they wanted? I think people go through the "acts" of Christianity today for selfish reasons as well.
