Day 191: Isaiah 5-8

My notes point out in Chap. 2 that a the word seraph (the angels at God's throne) is derived from the word 'burn', perhaps indicating their purity as God's ministers.  This emphasized holiness in a time when moral and spiritual decay had peaked among God's people.  How fitting that Isaiah's immediate response to this is acknowledging his own sin and 'uncleanness.'

Interesting notes on the double meaning of 7:14 (the virgin giving birth to a son, Immanuel)
  1. a young woman from the house of Ahaz who was not married would marry and have a son.  Before 3 years passed, the 2 invading kings would be destroyed.
  2. Mary who would bear Christ.
