In chapter 36, my notes say that the mountains of Israel were symbolic of Israel's strength. God promises to make them 'prosper more than before.' I think that even after a trial in our lives, we usually come out on the other side even better than before the trial happened. God ultimately wants the best for us.
In 36:21-23, I learned that God did not punish Israel as much for their sake, as He did for the reputation of His holy name. Ultimately, he wanted the whole world to come to Him, and if they though Israel could do whatever they wanted, then they would not have a very high view of God. Interesting.
I love the promises that God makes at the end of chapter 37.
