Day 49: Leviticus 16-18

VERY interesting footnotes today on blood and its significance in sacrifices as well as explaining the strict rules on not eating blood. Now I understand why Jesus' hearers were so upset when Jesus told them to drink his blood. (footnote:) Jesus, as God himself and the last sacrifice ever needed for sins, was asking believers to identify with him completely. He wants us to take his life into us, and he wants to participate in our lives as well.

The beginning of chapter 18 got me thinking. God reminds them that they came out of Egypt where they lived in a society where they were tempted in many ways to sin. They were about to go into Canaan where there would be more temptations. I can look back at temptations I have overcome with God's help; and I can also have a battle plan for temptations I will face in the future. It is so much easier when you are prepared and have a plan.
