I think as I read all these laws I need to remember that there are so many cultural and time differences that they sometimes just don't make sense. Our laws today make sense to us and I assume these were logical to the Israelites since they promised to obey them. Not that they will! (And not that we always do either!)
Even if we don't live under the Old Testament law, I think we can learn a lot about God's heart and what is important to right living. Things like restitution and caring for widows/orphans/poor, and the way we treat aliens....still REALLY good ideas. :-)
Happy Friday!

My favorite was how God kept reminding them to be kind to the foreigners, becuase they knew what it felt like to be a foreigner in Egypt. It is a good reminder to put others first and think how we would feel in each situation. I know when I feel left out or alone, it makes me more aware of others who may feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Beth... they seem silly, but most of the laws about how to treat others still work!!!
