I thought Gideon was doing a pretty good job and getting it right until the whole ephod thing. And then as soon as he dies, the Israelites turn away from God. It makes me wonder if we put too much "faith" in our spiritual leaders. If all of a sudden our church was gone, would most people know enough to follow God on their own? Do people go to church to encounter God or are they just going because it is something they enjoy doing (socially, etc.)?
Man, that Abimelech and his "wreckless adventurers" were nasty dudes.
