Day 116: Psalms 73, 77-78

Psalm 73: The rich and easy life is awfully appealing. We are so much more about immediate comfort and gratification, than about what awaits us in the future.

Psalm 77 is a good reminder that even when we don't see God in the midst of what we are currently suffering through, we can be comforted by looking back at where He has worked in the past. If He hasn't failed up to this point, why would he fail us now???

  1. I often struggle with what the writer of Psalm 73 talks about. Those who are evil in the world succeed, you wonder where their consequences are, how they are allowed to prosper and continue to thrive when they go against God's word and spirit. We are reminded in this Psalm that all those things are temporary and God does have a reason for everything, and that I don't get to have a say in it because I am not God. I have to trust Him to take care of me and my needs and not get consumed with what I think other people should or should not get.

And again in Psalm 78 the people are exhorted to remember the past and share the information with their children so their children can learn from the mistakes of the past and not walk away from God or lose trust in Him.

  2. As I read Psalm 78, I get frustrated for God. He does so much for His people and yet they continue to sin against Him. The thing to realize is that we do the same thing. We tell God that we are going to follow Him, but then our actions don't always line up. Praise God that He is a good God and a forgiving God.

My prayer is that He makes our hearts more like His. If our hearts are more like His maybe we can stop rebelling against Him so much.
