Day 68: Numbers 33-34

God knew that the Israelites couldn't play with fire and come out totally victorious. That is why he was very specific about them destroying ALL the idols in Canaan and the people who worshiped them. We think we can play with fire, and still maintain a certain amount of sin and temptation in our lives. We think we can keep it under control and at "safe" levels. When God says ALL, he means ALL.

  1. That is quiet a list of places the Israelites had been, my study Bible says that 40 places are listed, but some are not included in the list that were previously mentioned. So in 40 years, they lived in more than 40 places. That is a lot of moving and would have to take a lot of trust in God that there would be an end and the promised land was really there and theirs.

Like Beth, I was also struck by how detailed and deliberate God was about instructing the people to destroy all religious articles of the Cannanites. And how we shouldn't hold on to the idols, priorities, and the lifestyle we had before we accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior.
